OPX Biotechnologies Selected by Global Cleantech Cluster Association as 2011 Later Stage Award Top 30 Finalist
BOULDER, Colo. – October 17, 2011 – OPX Biotechnologies Inc. (OPXBIO) today announced it has been chosen by the Global Cleantech Cluster Association (GCCA) as a 2011 Later Stage Award Top 30 semi-finalist. Inclusion in the GCCA Global Top 30 reflects the strong business and market position of the company in the new materials sector, and signifies its innovative approaches to renewable biochemical development and product technologies.
"It was a very competitive process to narrow down 185 nominations to 30 from cleantech clusters all over the world," says Ben Taube, chairman of the GCCA. "These Top 30 Finalists are the rising stars of the world's clean technology sector."
OPXBIO was nominated for the GCCA Later Stage Award by the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association in May 2011 for its development and successful pilot of the microbe and bioprocess to produce BioAcrylic, its first renewable chemical product, at 25 percent lower cost than petro-acrylic and with a 75 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. OPXBIO's business model, market position, profitability and potential at creating and capturing market share—among other criteria—qualified it for finalist recognition.
"We are honored to be recognized for our pioneering work in the field of bioacrylics," said Charles (Chas) Eggert, president and chief executive officer of OPXBIO. "This award is continued validation of our technology focus and business model to deliver bio-based chemicals and materials that are both renewable and less expensive than their petroleum-based counterparts."
The GCCA Later Stage Award Global Top 30 Finalists were selected out of the 4000 companies represented by the GCCA's 30 member clusters, ranging from North America and Europe to Asia. Each cluster conducted internal evaluations to nominate up to 10 companies in 10 categories, including solar, wind, energy storage, green buildings, water and more.
OPXBIO and the other 2011 Global Top 30 companies will be honored at the GCCA's Later Stage Award Dinner held in conjunction with the Dublin Cleantech Forum on November 14th, 2011. Co-hosted by An iSli Ghlas - The Green Way, Ireland's cleantech cluster, the full day executive event features CEO presentations and high-level discussions on the most critical topics for emerging clean technology companies and investment opportunities.
